the wedding we went to over the weekend was lovely! we were so happy to be included in steven & cassie's special day. how sweet and in love they are! the venue, clarke estate, was beautiful. it was surrounded by towering bamboo and green everywhere. an outdoor, evening wedding in late october? only in southern california.

i thought i would share what we wore here and over at wardrobe remix.

husband looking handsome, as always. black slacks, vintage christian dior shirt, vintage 1950s pink n black tie and vintage boots. i wore a black ruffle-embellished dress, vintage millinery flower corsage i made (that i also wore on my wedding gown), vintage charm necklace and bracelet and my favorite vintage red 1950s heels.

i was perusing flickr autumn photos early this morning and came across a lovely flick photo stream. {i had a long day yesterday, a restless night and will continue to have one busy friday and weekend so i was trying to relax for a minute. actually let's just say this whole month is nuts and i need some time to have some tea, flip through a magazine, read a book, or look at gorgeous pictures.} all that to say: have a look for yourself. her name is eadaoin and her blog is also full of beautiful images. she has an etsy shop, your willing skin, where you can purchase a print of her images. the image above is of a farm she visited in ireland. isn't it dreamy? i'd love to visit and take a walk down that path. i think i need to plan a day trip out to a pretty apple orchard with husband sometime soon. we can picnic and eat pear and roquefort tarts with wine. *sigh* enough day-dreaming for me!

i didn't forget about this little blog and did not expect to be away for two weeks (!). not sure if i mentioned it here but the husband and i are moving. so basically we have spent most of the last few weeks getting things in order for that. cleaning out goodies for donations, etsy sales, packing, etc. all that plus the usual work and obligations. and it is all worth it! we are beyond excited about our new place. i am looking forward to getting it into dollhouse shape so i can share it here. also, looking forward to thanksgiving dinner with our closest loved ones there. hopefully we can settle in fast enough to pull it off.

so just in case posting here is sporadic or non-existant, you now know why. i am still trying to keep updating my little etsy shop often, though. so far, so good. have a look for more pretty dresses, shoes and outerwear. i just listed some darling vintage ferragamo vara shoes, too. if only those fit me!

i'm trying to get back into posting pics on wardrobe remix. i had fun the last few times i did it and i always enjoy having a look at what everyone is wearing. this plaid "model's coat" dress was almost listed in my little etsy shop. this photo is actually a photo i took for the shop. but it was so comfy and cute that the very next day i wore this exact little outfit. and loved it. i think it is perfect for fall and winter. it looks lovely with or without tights and with sandals or boots. i might have a new favorite dress. i already want to wear it again! do you have a favorite item of clothing for fall? xoxo.

this is one of our favorite polaroids from a picnic we took this summer. and what a good summer it was. and what a good picnic, too. it hardly feels like fall this week with temperatures in the 90s (degrees). definitely not the ideal temp for all the baking that went on in out little kitchen the last few days. but soon it will be time to take out the tights and boots and coats and bake pumpkin and apple goodies. and enjoy a lovely and cool evening bike ride. we're so excited for the weekend, as usual. not just for fun plans but because we can actually spend some time together. isn't it odd how you can live with someone and have dinner together every day but it just does not seem like enough time? what are you doing this weekend? is it truly autumn in your neck of the woods? xoxo.

but not junk food pizza. homemade, mostly. we have it for dinner about twice a week. no joke. i've tried so many dough recipes in the past, and while they were okay, they were not exactly right. we gave up for a few months and started purchasing our dough from a local italian market. it is really good but i still wanted to perfect our own pizza dough recipe. wonderful ina garten has a pretty darn good recipe in her cookbook, barefoot contessa back to basics. i've made it a handful of times and we love it. i might try a few others, just out of curiousity, but i think this is our go-to recipe. finally! last night we had our pizza dinner. it was so tasty. crimini mushrooms, garlic, spinach and onions. {and homemade tomato sauce & dough...yum!} i think we'll have tomato and basil later this week. xoxo.

there is so much to look at on etsy. there are so many talented artists and photographers, so many vintage photos, clothes, bric-a-brac... it is amazing. the other day i came across Gemma Correll's etsy shop. which led me to her website and flick photostream. i am in love with her "what i wore" illustrations and her illustrated daily & travel diaries. now i am totally inspired to get back to my sketching and painting. and maybe that will lead me back to my sewing machine somehow? hmmm. you never know. she also has a blog and loves cats and pugs. wonderful! check it out here, you will be happy you did. xoxo.

wouldn't it be fun to take photos like these? a few months ago we looked over at the car next to us and the driver was in full clown make-up and costume. he smiled, waved and sped off. it was funny and creepy and i wish i had taken a photo.

i am going to miss these corner shelves in our dining room when we move. i love to see our little treasures peeking out at us each day. the built-in's were already wonderful in our little cottage, but they became much more special once i added the vintage wrapping paper and doily trim. and it was so easy! all i did was tape it in one day while i was home sick. this picture is really old, and i can't seem to find one that shows how they look with the doors shut, but you can sorta see them here. maybe i can do something similar with our bookcase {or the shoe shelf i would like to find} when we leave these shelves behind... ?

i forgot to tell you that we had a really nice weekend. i even gave husband a much needed haircut and he looks like a handsome WWII fighter pilot. the only bad thing from the weekend was that i am a huge clutz and missed a step and fell right on my back. {my lower back that was already hurting for 2 weeks.} so now i am slower than ever. i hope i feel well enough by the weekend... we were really hoping for another beach day! the little kitty in the picture above is one of my little treasures that i added to the shop over the weekend. it is so darling i kinda want to keep it.

we have been waiting for the weekend since monday! of course we will have to run a few errands and such but we're looking forward to relaxing on the beach. just me and husband, some yummy snacks, a good book, and the lovely ocean. cannot. wait.

and then when we get home i can make us a batch of fresh strawberry lemonade. {spiked with vodka, of course}. the sweetest strawberries from our farmers market and tasty lemons from the neighbors tree. it's the perfect summer cocktail. we had it at our wedding and it was a hit... can you tell? it's almost gone in the photo above. i wonder how many batches we went through that day ?

happy monday, friends. i hope everyone had a lovely weekend. we had a fine time. i baked lots, went to a baby shower and relaxed with the husband. we also cooked a very good dinner last night. pasta, salad and home made bread followed by warm chocolate chocolate chip cookies & milk. oh boy. i sure wish i had pictures to share with you! i thought a picture of these little cakes i baked would suffice...

over the weekend i thought about my little etsy shop and if i want to keep it open. i don't have much time to update it and honestly, i have just lost interest. as much as i love sharing the goodies i find and sending them off to a new perfect home, i don't feel like i have it in me anymore. only problem with that is, i have so much stuff i'd like to sell off. and it takes up lots of our valuable space. so. for now, i have put lots of goodies on sale in the shop. we're talking $9 sale. {i also lowered prices on many other lovelies} and for now, i'm still thinking about what the next move will be. maybe a few more months to try and list the rest? maybe sell it off in a huge lot on ebay? maybe just dump it all off at the salvation army? i guess i'll think about it some more...

one of my favorite things ever is to play out in the garden. plants and flowers can keep me busy for hours on end and really, i don't think there is anything more relaxing. well, aside from bellinis and mimosas poolside. or a day at the ocean. but, you know what i mean... i was going through my iphoto and stumbled on these pictures. i kinda forgot about them. these flowers are from what seems like ages ago... mother's day to be exact. i guess that kinda is ages ago. we were in the midst of last minute, crazy wedding preparations and i took a morning to visit the flower mart in downtown la. the pickings were slim and the prices were raised for the holiday but i thought these lovelies were sure to make the special ladies in our life smile. arranging them made me smile and also gave me the time i needed to relax {boy oh boy did i need to relax those last few weeks}. it was the most amazing calm feeling. i felt the same exact way when i arranged my wedding bouquet. what a nice little reminder these hurried snapshots turned out to be. which also reminds me that i need to share a few wedding pics. i'm so behind!

on saturday we went to a fun zombie birthday party/art show. we didn't dress up {boring, i know} but i didn't know what a zombie would wear since i am too chicken to watch those sort of movies. plus it was too hot for halloween-ish make-up. i wore a black ruffle-y dress with a white vintage millinery flower(s) corsage that i wore on my wedding dress. and then i played with masks. the mask in the photo above reminded me of donnie darko and was handmade by one of the artists at the party. too bad i was a little too tipsy to pay attention when my photo was taken, this is one of the only ones i have from the night and it is sooo dark. i also brought along zombie cupcakes. i wasn't sure how to decorate them so i went with a graveyard scene and made headstone cupcake toppers. i thought it turned out okay and the birthday boy was more than pleased. i guess that's all that matters. and hey, at least they tasted good.

we went for a picnic at the fullerton arboretum while my sister was in town last week. it's our favorite place to picnic. we were just there with our dear friends, michelle and todd, a few weeks ago. {which reminds me, i really need to open up our new printer/scanner so i can scan some of the lovely polaroids we have been taking.} i hope we can find some time for another day in the arboretum soon. i have been wanting to make a tomato tart with all of the gorgeous heirloom tomatos and fresh basil we have been growing. that would make for some tasty picnic-fare. who's bringing the salad? and then i can make those mason jar strawberry shortcakes again... mmm. not this weekend though, we'll be busy bees. i hope you have something special planned for your weekend! sitting in the backyard with a lemonade and a good book sounds lovely right about now. happy weekend! xoxo.

my sister and her children were in town visiting all last week so i didn't
have much time to be online... i had plenty of time for baking and
cooking, picnics, the beach and good times. they went back home to arizona on sunday. the husband and i already miss them! too bad they don't live here in california...

this fruit galette is one of the things i baked last week. it had peaches, nectarines, apricots and blueberries {my favorite!} it was so tasty i cannot wait to make it again.

my darling friends had a bridal shower for me last saturday. it was so much fun to be around so many dear ladies, i'm so glad they were all able to make it! we played games while sipping on cocktails. i think we need to have more ladies nights! a few girlfriends and i used to have a card night every week. which usually turned into a night of chatting. a few family members used to gather at my gramma's for potluck bingo on the weekends, too. that was nice. i think i'll host a ladies game night after the wedding {when we'll have more time!} my boy can be the bartender.

it was my darling nephews 13th birthday last week. he is a huge beatles fan and an almost bigger fan of my chocolate cake. he lives in arizona though so fresh baked chocolate cake out of the oven was not an option. so. i baked him a single layer, frosted it and sent it on its way! and guess what? it arrived safely and from what i heard, was delish! his excited, joyful thank you phone call was the best. so are the pics of him blowing out the candles. he decorated it with the little decorating package i included and it looked so cute. wish i could have been there... do you remember your 13th birthday? i sure don't.

holy moly where did last week and the weekend go? spring cleaning is still underway and we are getting our wedding invites out this week... finally! we're so excited about this, it makes it all seem more "official". we still have tons of details to attend to but the stress has gone down a few notches now that the invites are taken care of... whew{!} i've been trying to add a few goodies to the shop and have so many lovelies waiting in the wings that i have taken out of my treasure chest closet. how do you like that vintage betsey johnson gem above? not my style but gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. i hope it makes its way into someones closet, or dance club soon. happy monday! xoxo

this weekend, the little shop was fortunate enough to be featured on the the fabulous etsy blog, the storque thank you thank you! it was filled with vintage lovelies that were garden and plant related... have a look here. so many treasures! we are honored. not only that but we were also inspired and carved out some time over the weekend to play in our own garden. we cleaned a bit, rearranged a few things and i also got to re-pot some of my gorgeous succulents. our front porch jasmine is in bloom {isn't it pretty?} and so are the neighbors orange blossums. it is so fragrant and lovely outside! no wonder all those little birds are chirping happily. spring is love.

naturally, after my boy and i struggled with finding a location for our wedding for the last couple of months... we stumble upon this little gem! in our own little town for crying out loud! i made a wrong turn when driving home last weekend and we spotted this charming looking house surrounded by pretty flowers. we wondered who lived there and what the inside might look like and then we spotted a little "historic point of interest" sign and a small parking lot off to the side. so we parked and off we went to do a little bit of exploring. the location once housed the first water pumping site in the area and the building is now used for the city's women club and they rent the premises out for parties, weddings and the like. i peeked inside through some open blinds and it looks quite nice. if we did not already decide on my aunt's backyard as our wedding location, i would definitely be calling for more info on this space. the pictures i am sharing here are quick snapshots from my digital camera, hopefully the ones i shot on the 35mm will be much nicer. it really was so gorgeous that day... {and yes, we are big nerds that tote around a tripod} does anyone know what those flowers are called that are right behind us? i'm sure they aren't roses. right? we are sitting under that patio in front of the house in the first pic. it was really cute with a built-in wrap around bench. i bet this would be so lovely with fairy lights, garland and pom poms in the evening.

i hope everyone had a lovely weekend... we visited my grandpa and ironed out some wedding details. when we set the date in january, i was a bit worried that may would be too soon. i know most gals spend at least a year planning. in some ways it has been a bit difficult, as most places are already booked. however, i'm glad we are "short-term" planning. it gives me less time to hem and haw and be indecisive over every last detail. {how does one make these decisions?!} i thought i would share some images that have inspired our planning so far...

we've been trying to get back into the swing of things since my gramma's passing in december... which is the main reason for my absense here. it's hard but we are doing our best to keep busy and keep living.

we've set a date for our wedding {late spring/early summer!} and have been having a good time making those arrangements. and by making those arrangements i mean, we are figuring out how we can do everything ourselves on a super tiny budget. i'm sure this is something you will be hearing more about... i have been baking lots and sorting through many vintage lovelies i will have to share in the shop soon, too. i will keep you posted! i hope all is well in your end of the world. xoxo

i feel so bad that so much time has passed since my last little update here. my gramma has been in the hospital so i have been spending all of my free time visiting her there and then visiting my grandpa at home so he is not too lonely. i hope she will be well enough to go home soon! me and the boy have been trying our best to fit some alone time in there between everything, too. yesterday was my birthday and we had a lovely time together, he is so sweet... we're going to continue celebrating tonight as well. i can't wait until we are married! maybe that sounds silly somehow but, we just can't wait. i've been re-reading miss anais nin's diaries and all i want to do lately is sit around a fire and read or chat with the boy. or watch and listen to him play guitar. the cooler weather is so wonderful. i know it's not *real* cold weather since we are in southern california but it's cooler than we're used to and we love it. i think i'll make us some hot cocoa tonight. {only after we visit gramma and i get some work done!} there are a few new goodies in the shop and i hope i can get many more added. i'll share some photos here, but please check the shop for more. there are more xmas goodies, too. i have such lovely sweaters and coats i have been wanting to add as well. soon soon! i hope you are all well and enjoying december! xoxo

since i was sick over the weekend i was able to sit still a bit and relax. i caught up on some reading, watched a few movies and took a few naps. i also got to some cleaning and de-cluttering and also unpacked a bit of vintage christmas ornaments we've decided to part with. we have more than enough and each year we have a holiday party where everyone that attends brings handmade ornaments to swap. it's so much fun and very cute to see what everyone comes up with. so, because our ornament collection keeps on growing, we figured we could part with some. we've packaged up little sets of 10 christmas ornaments. most are vintage from the 1950s and 1960s and a few are newer. the best thing is that most of them are handmade! what a treasure. i think they make excellent gifts, too. oh how i wish someone would give me a little pretty bag of lovelies like this! i've added a few to the shop already, and will be adding more sweet treasures the rest of the day... gosh! can you believe i am already talking about christmas here?

i have not had a free minute this week! i wanted to show you what i ended up wearing to my cousin's wedding over the weekend... i was a little bummed that the vintage silk dress was rather wrinkled after the long car ride. but, what can you do right? it was such a windy day, too. the wedding was beautiful and took place at the gorgeous mission in san fernando, california. i'm a bit under the weather so this weekend will be spent with warm blankets and hot tea... what do you have planned? whatever it is, i hope it's lovely. xoxo.

happy monday, dearies! i hope you had a lovely weekend. ours was blessed with gorgeous rain! very light rain, but rain nonetheless. i'm excited to bring out my warm little coats. {finally!} we have such a busy week, ending with my cousins big wedding on sunday. exciting! i'm still trying to pick out a dressy for that. i think i might take a few pics and ask for your help in the next few days. speaking of dresses. a sweet gal i "met" on flickr purchased a few goodies from my little shop and shared how fantastic she looked in one of the dresses on the wardrobe remix group. i thought i would share how cute she looks with you here {so much better than it ever looked on me i might add} : photo from miss erin's flickr.

happy halloween, everyone! here we are in our "fancy dress" as my spanish friends call it... these are from a party last year. and unfortunately my camera battery had died so i was unable to take my own photos. so pics of me as alice and my boy as the mad hatter are limited... but you get the idea right? i made my costume with a matching march hare plush purse and put together my boys costume as well. so much fun!

cute new housewares and vintage books in the shop! those blue monochrome glasses have a pretty ombree look. plus they make me think of sweet laura ingalls on the prairie {i just re-read the entire little house series and all i want to do is live on a farm, bake bread and make baked beans}. the sweet old woman i purchased that better homes and gardens garden primer from told me that was her favorite gift to add to any bridal gifts. what a great idea! i hope we'll recieve such useful and thoughtful gifts when we get married.

the days have just flown by recently. i can't believe the weekend is here again! not complaining at all. only, where on earth does the time go? i want to get better at feeling each and every day rather than not even knowing which day it is. how does one do that? i was feeling kinda bad that i had not time to update the shop with some of the vintage goodies i have been excited to share with you, but i think that might have to wait until monday, maybe. i have been adding a few things here and there, of the home decor variety mostly. and i also added a new section to the shop: the vintage library. i was just thinking that i had not even let you know about that, bad me. the pretty grey leather purse above was added recently, with a few more vintage purses... please have a look when you get a minute. since my gramma has been sick lately, i have been trying my best to help out more and i have also been consumed with worry. i think i will take this saturday to relax. organize our house, read and spend some time in my garden. maybe bake something special...? and then sunday i will visit with my grandparents and be calm. worrying and stressing does not help anyone feel better! :) maybe i can get my gramma to show me how to knit something... what are you doing this weekend? whatever it is, i hope it's wonderful! and i hope you will enjoy a few quiet and calm moments to yourself as well. happy friday! xoxo

one of my favorite naughty snacks is leftover cupcakes. they make a great breakfast with tea or a quick lunch with some milk. in this case it was a leftover german chocolate cupcake. i know it's just as easy to have some toast or fruit... and that is what i do on *most* days. but having these little treats once in a while reminds me of being a girl and waking up early for saturday morning cartoons. sometimes i would have a slice of chocolate cake for breakfast before anyone woke up to tell me not to. what's your favorite not-too-bad-for-you snack?

sorry i didn't get a chance to update the shop over the weekend, i hardly had a minute to sit down! the lingerie bridal shower was very silly, as showers can be. but we had a great time. i found a sweet baby blue satin nightie set at Frederick's of Hollywood as my gift... i only knew 3 people at the party but everyone was so welcoming and lovely, how nice. the rest of the weekend was spent over at my grandparents house, helping out. my grandmother has been sick. i've been so exhausted the last few days... here are 2 items from my closet that i am not sure about keeping or selling. they have been ignored far too long, just like that sailor dress i mentioned recently. (the one i decided to love, wear and keep) as soon as i put this dress and little denim jacket on for the shop photos, i was wondering why on earth i have never worn them since they fit so well. so i have been thinking about them for a week or so trying to decide. what do you think? keep or sell?

i am going to a lingerie bridal shower for my cousins fiance tomorrow. not sure what to wear yet... and i still have to go out today and pick up a gift. i will probably find a sweet little chemise or robe... nothing to risky! i wish she was a vintage loving gal because there are always cute vintage slips and nighties to be had. if i have lingerie shower before we are married {i probably will not} i would love it if everyone brought vintage or vintage inspired goodies! but that's just me. i love my vintage glamour girl dressing gowns and old vanity fair leopard print. i was also in love with that collection anna sui did for victorias secret a few years ago... i bet some gals would think old vintage slips are gross or something. oh well. their loss. :) here are some pretties i found just now on etsy. lovely goddess gown.

the other day my fiance was helping me take photos for the shop. i have been cleaning out my closet and trying my best to part with some of my lovely collection. so far, i have done a fantastic job but when i put this little dress on i wanted to keep it. it sat in my closet for ages, unworn. can you believe it? we took photos anyway and i thought i would give myself a few days to decide on it. the very next day i wore it! exactly as photographed for a day of errands along with a coffee date with a girlfriend. i fetched a few compliments and decided it's a keeper! i'm so in love with it i decided to be brave and post to the wardrobe remix. this is my first post there, after ages of peeking at all the gorgeous outfits everyone shares.

i have been going on and on about making bread so much that my next door neighbor, sweetheart that she is, gave me her bread baking machine! that should probably make me a tad bit embarrassed. she said it was a gift that she never used that has been sitting in her garage for ages. i've been baking the famous no knead rustic round loaf over and over. not only because it is so easy but because it is delicious! i have shared it with a few neighbors and family hoping they might try it too. this is what my counter or oven top has been looking like for a while.
bread rising/resting in a big bowl. as a matter of fact, that is what my oven looks like now since i will be baking a loaf later this afternoon. i usually bake it in the evening so we can have some with dinner so the photos turn out pretty bad. i bake it on a terra cotta plant saucer that i had sitting unused in my garden. i didn't have the fancy le creuset dutch oven the recipe calls for and i have had no problems and it tastes wonderful. i'm a bit nervous about this big fancy bread machine... i'll have to look for a nice recipe to use with it. feel free to share any that you might have! xoxo

right now the reproductions are selling for about $350 on the ferragamo site. they are gorgeous shoes but why buy new when you can get vintage at a fraction of the price, right? i'm sure you can find your size on ebay or etsy easily, ladies. a friend of mine sold a fantastic kelly green pair on ebay not too long ago. i would have been bidding away had they been in my size. anyhoo, just saying... now i am off to baking! i hope you have a wonderful weekend! xoxo

happy monday! the weekend was as busy, as expected, but i managed to squeeze in a bit of fun. i baked a lovely pear and cheese galette for me and my dear boy and wished i was a pastry chef. {in paris, of course.} i also poured over my new domino magazine and a few cookbooks i borrowed from the library for some autumn inspiration. i managed to make my first etsy treasury, too! have a look here before it expires this evening. there are so many pretty shops on etsy it was so hard to only pick a few items to share... i even managed to add some items to my own shop. i'll show you a few below. today i have quite a bit of sewing to attend to so i better get started. i have my windows open and it's windy and raining lightly out right now, i love it! i hope you have a wonderful day! xoxo

good morning, monday! we had a lovely, busy weekend and i'm looking forward to getting things done today. i just love crossing things off of our to-do list. especially when one of those things is to bake a new loaf of bread. i'm telling you, this bread-making is changing my life! who would have thought it could be so easy? don't worry, i'll stop myself from going on and on about bread {for now anyway}. i really wanted to share a little dress i made for my dear friend that is expecting her first baby.

i cannot resist baby nautical outfits... sailor boys or sailor girls? i just love it. this nautical lovely has teeny sailboats on bottom and anchors on top with navy grosgrain ribbon ties. and once the baby outgrows this as a dress, it can be worn as a blouse or skirt since it is adjustable on top. now i need to make a matching one for momma. :)

here are some special order cupcakes for a friends {un} baby shower. she was not having any of the typical baby shower fun. no silly baby games, baby decorations, nothing. we sat around gossiping, eating, drinking and being merry. what fun. did i mention it *started* at 6pm? the cupcakes were good, too. how can you go wrong with decadent chocolate cake, ganache, cream cheese frosting and a sweet sweet organic berry?

in other news: i have been baking bread from scratch. it is beyond delicious and so much easier than i ever thought. i kinda feel bad for our bread guy at the farmers market though, since he will no longer recieve our weekly $4 dollars.

i am going to bake a loaf of french bread today for the first time ever. then we will eat it tonight with our favorite pasta dish: pasta arancia. which means orange pasta. there are no oranges in it but we live on orange drive and started making it while living here so there ya go. we make it all of the time and it is basically any pasta and any veggie we have on hand. it is always tasty and if there are any leftovers they are super delish cold the next day. today it will have garlic, red onion, tomatos, basil, artichokes, red bell peppers and a bit of zuccini -yum! we were planning to meet up with our "couple" friends tonight but i'm kinda glad that didn't work out. so have a wonderful weekend everyone! xoxo

these are some of the weekend cupcakes. i wanted to share this picture because one of those cupcakes on the top left has a happy face baked in {!} i noticed it when i was taking the picture... i'll show you the close-up later. right now, i really want to take a bike ride before the sun is out full force. happy day! xoxo
